I started my interior design business in 2014, I was finally working with my ideal clients until I was blindsided by a sudden illness. In the later part of 2017, I was diagnosed with leukemia and could no longer move and lift items or muscle up the energy to even work because of the pain and fatigue.
I took a 2-year hiatus and thought my dream of designing beautiful homes was over. But God had another plan for me. I rediscovered my passion for sewing. I started sewing in high school like most of us do in a Home Economic class. It wasn't until my best friend and I were taking our mothers on the Oprah & Gayle Girls Getaway Cruise in 2019, that I rediscovered my gift of sewing.
How it all connects.... I purchased a Mercedes of a sewing machine to make custom pillows and never took it out the box because it intimidated me. I was familiar with the old Singer machine but this one was push button, it threaded itself, and had a plethora of stitching features. I had to take a mini crash course on how to use it.
Long story short, the cruise was in January and my wardrobe was missing a statement piece. My mom and I went to our local fabric and fumbled through all the fabric until this one print literally fell on the floor at my feet and it was that missing piece. I made my first kimono that week. I received rave reviews on the cruise and on Facebook after I posted the picture. I had more orders than I could keep up with. Don't give up when one dream tends fade, be open to the plan God has for you. Sometimes it is more than you have imagined.
